I figure this school will be a force to be reckoned with in 30-40 years.

They'll be mid-tier for our kids, mark my words.

By the time that happens, every other UC will be an upper-tier or top-tier school, leaving UC Merced in the position of the UC Bastard-child...

i thought it would be interesting to note that Merced had pretty much identical incoming freshman stats as Riverside

Merced: 3.58 GPA, 1668 (New SAT score)
Riverside: 3.59 GPA, 1674

its kinda sad...

Where is Merced located?

I think the closest city is like Modesto. It's basically near Yosemite.

Actually, I heard Merced has really amazing facilities. And it's definitely a great chance to start with a very clean palette. This one kid from my school, Sam Fong, started like all of the clubs there and is like president of the world or something. That kind of thing looks pretty dang good on a grad school application.

They are improving the current UC Facilities, haven't you ever been to a UC school during summer? They are ALWAYS doing construction.

If you're talking to me, I'm GOING to a UC :/. And I visited all four of the campuses I was considering. And I went to orientation during summer. I don't know how that was pertinent to what I even said, but whatever.

Dont be surprised if u see me posting this again. It was a bad mistake for them to locate the UC at merced and it should have been in fresno. From what i heard fresno state has a powerful lobby that stopped any plans for a UC here and on top of that my understanding is this whole city is owned by housing development and its hard to get land grants for universities. Im not sure about the accuracy of this but my point is the same nonetheless. So maybe they saved a buck at UC merced with cheaper land but at fresno they woulda been able to turn the central valley UC into something much more prosperous and would have gotten much better students. All the smart students here continue to go to north cal and socal for their UC education.
