Did you get accepted EDII or RD to Bowdoin?

wow very nice - Bowdoin - you should go (if ur into the Liberal Artsy schools) btw - what do u think of case in comparison to UR?

were all these acceptances from rd or ea????

EDII, but I may not be able to attend, because they didn't meet my financial need.

@Awakien, do you mean Case Western in comparison to Rochester? If so they are similiar in terms of type of school, both public research universitys but the cirriculm offerings are quite different. I think rochester's cluster system, and liberal art core is pretty cool compared to Case which I guess you can say is a little more professional, like career oriented. Case's preprofessional programs are pretty sweet, and for me I like that they have a law school. And Case I believe compared to Rochester, is academically much more challenging due to heavy grade deflation and harder courseload which depending on the person could be either good or bad. Overall though I liked Rochester better though.

Yes - I did mean Case vs Rochester, and thanks alot for the headsup about Case.

Yah I love Rochester's unique cluster system and the freedom they give you there - though it means that you really know what ur doing in order to built the right courseload for Graduate admissions (which i have no problem with).

So Case is more career oriented huh? Then the more rigorous coursework makes sense. I do know that Case is known for really showing the money when it comes to Financial aid though so I can already tell I'm gonna have a hard time deciding between the two...

Hmmmm Both are located in nice places, both are good for science, one is more liberal-artsy than the other (Rochester - i like liberal arts), both are research universities, both medium sized, both have medical centers (great for intern opportunities), both have great rep, but one may give more money than the other (we'll see).... so what the hell does it boil down to? lol. I guess the visit (but thats really too subjective to factors like how well admissinos can sell their school i guess) soo no idea haha.

Thanks for the help though =)

accepted

how were u guys notified...omgosh im not going to get in :(

old fashioned snail mail, you get a big folder. Where do you live, if its far from ny, it may take longer to get to you? And don't worry you have a good shot, Rochester looks at everything, from GPA to overall character. I had low sats and got accepted. So you should be good.

i lve in chicago...and today just got an email saying that my application is complete and should be hearing next month! ahh! i hope i didnt miss the deadline...crapppp

Accepted to Rochester, U Michigan, Wash U.

Waiting on seven others.

just wondering, is Rochester considered selective/a good school? i was told to apply there as one of my safeties.

they accept alot because they have a very low enrollment percentage. around 19%?

Awakien - in response to comparing UR to Case....

i go to UR and have a friend at case. we're both majoring in the sciences, but the difference is i'm loving my experience and he's not so much. he won't deny that he's getting a great education and learning lots, but he feels as if the school is not balanced. he's in engineering and feels as if everything sort of revolves around it. at UR there are sciences but we also have one of the best music programs so there are concerts every night of the week that are generally free to students. we have lots of art and cultural activities on campus. basially i feel like i can study science but it doesn't have to be my life, where he doesn't feel that way at Case. (he was actually considering transferring to rochester to find balance while maintaining a great program) maybe you're not into artsy stuff, but if you are then this is something important to consider.

you also alluded to the fact that medicine might be the root you're taking?? if thats the case then rochester is deff the place to be. fromt he first day you get here they stress that you can do research as a first semester freshman and this isn't just something they say to pull you in- it's true...
the school just paid for me to take an emt class at the hospital here. i got to spend so much time at the medical school as a freshman, take shifts in the ER and do all sorts of cool stuff. they really are very helpful at making sure you have opportunities early on.

Something Is Wrong.....i Live In Ny And Its The 19th Today And I Still Havent Gotten My Decision Yet From Rochester......a Lot Of People Said They Got Somewhere In The Early Week Of May And I Still Didnt Get It Yet......im So Worried And Scared Right Now

Applied to Vassar, Rochester, Dickinson, Macalester, Skidmore, and Guilford. So far I've only heard from Guilford (accepted with merit aid). I was deferred ED from Vassar, still waiting on RD. The rest are pending...

Although I think my top choice is still Vassar (<3), Rochester is definitely up there on my list. To be quite frank, my choice really depends on where I get in and what kind of financial aid I get offered. If I get into Vassar, the choice will be particularly tough, although I could probably be swayed by a really nice financial aid package from one of the other schools.

Of the other schools, Rochester is pretty high on my list I think though. It depends on so many things...

yea i definitely feel that i'll have a better time at Rochester, i have a friend now who goes to case and she's always complaining about how its too focused in certain areas - and she says it got too much of a geeky atmosphere lol.

I'm a science person but i like being liberal-artsy too =P I guess the claim they made about how Rochester has the benefits of a large research university but has the atmosphere of a close-knit liberal arts college isnt too far from the truth - great to hear!

BTW - I got waitlisted to Case, Admitted to UR with 26,000 in scholarships/grants + the rest are federal aid so i get a free ride basically.

Waiting on Oberlin College and Cornell - but so far UR seems like the way to go for me =)

PS - seole - wow you applied to vassar? im so jealous lol. I got scared out of applying to the top liberals includign Vassar and Swarthmore. I regret it now =( so why'd you choose to apply to UR along with vassar? (im hoping for some kinda similarity between the two, as u can see LoL)

Awakien- I actually heard about Rochester from a girl I was best friends with in second and third grades. I changed states before fourth, but we still talk on the phone--it's one of those weird connections, you know? Anyway, she visited Rochester and got really good vibes, and that was enough to make me look into it. :) Her first choice at the time was Swarthmore and mine was Vassar, ironically. Anyway, it's hard to be specific but I really like the general vibes I've gotten from Rochester.

...But who else wants to volunteer to redo the school's admissions page?? It's so old and ugly and doesn't match the main page at all....

I got in, by the way! :)

I Got In!!!!!!!

Congratulations you two! =) My best friend just got in yesterday too - I hope we end up at the same place ... unless we get into better schools lol.

aw seole - childhood friends =) nice to hear those r still around - she sounds like a great person so hopefully you two'll keep in touch for the years to come!

Yah UR gave me alot of good vibes (unlike Cornell) =P Oberlin is the liberal arts college i chose to apply to n i havent heard ><

Again I got better vibes from Oberlin than Cornell lol - i totally clicked with my interviewers from UR and Oberlin, but my Cornell interview was a disaster lol. I believe it says alot about the schools themselves and what kind of people go there.

Has anyone noticed that similar people apply to the same type of schools? So far Ive noticed UR is consistently a top choice among bright and NICE people (not the cocky kind)
