How many summer internships did or will you be applying too?

I'm trying to get a general number of how many internships do most people generally apply too. It also be great if you specified your current year and major.

I am a parent. When my son was in college (he graduated a couple years ago) I advise him to apply to as many summer internship positions that he qualified to apply until he gets an offer.

I graduated several years ago, but when my classmates and I applied, some of us got offers from the first company we applied to while others applied to several dozen without success. Unlike colleges, where you have a reasonable amount of certainty where you will get in and can, therefore, apply to a limited number of schools, there are no guarantees about internships, so there is no magic number that gives you a higher likelihood of success.

My advice? Apply starting as soon as school starts up again and keep applying until you find something. At the same time, be careful that the internship is what it purports to be - there is, unfortunately, a great deal of bait-and-switch out there, where a job is advertised as an internship but turns out to be something that gives you no valuable training whatsoever and pays you little to nothing.
