How many internships should I apply to?

<p>I'm a college freshman, and I'm interested in management consulting directly after graduation. For this upcoming summer, I'm considering study abroad, but I'd strongly prefer an internship, paid or unpaid. The biggest problem I've encountered is just that most internships target juniors, some allow sophomore applicants, and virtually none are interested freshmen. As a result, I've had to expand my search to practically all fields, and even then I'm only looking at about 10 internships.</p>

<p>Should I keep looking? How many internships should I apply to? I've heard of juniors applying to 50+, but I don't know what the standard number for freshmen is.</p>

<p>the obvious answer is to apply to everything until you get an offer that you want.</p>

<p>on the other hand, I would suggest studying abroad. People usually have a great time, and it will also add to your resume.</p>

<p>Don’t think in terms of a capped number. Apply until you get an internship. If you absolutely can’t find any more to apply to, then stop.</p>

<p>As a freshman it is very difficult to get a consulting internship. To be honest the odds of getting a worthwhile internship don’t justify the stress of applying. If you have the chance to study abroad, do it. It will be an amazing life experience and also help you bolster your resume in a much more real way than shuffling paper, which is what you will likely end up doing as a rising sophomore at some kind of consulting firm.</p>

<p>If you can get a job for the summer in addition to study abroad, that’s an added bonus. But don’t stress about internships before you really need to!</p>
