i don't think it really matters how long it is. as long as your 3/4 page is engaging and provides a lot of information and details, they shouldn't care about the length! :]

My autobiography is 552 words... kind of long, but I really connected with that piece.
My Common App is 931 words.
My Why Penn isnt finished it, but it's already like 230 words and I'm not even close to being finished.
My professor essay is 240 words.

I dont think Penn really cares too much about length, they just want good content.

Common: around 896
Why Penn: around 887
Bio: didn't do, ahhh!

I figure that since my Common and Why Penn are so long, it can basically make up for my lack of pg 217. (Also Jacinda Ojeda, the admit director for my region, said it's "truly" optional because when Penn switched over to Common, they didn't want to totally get rid of the essay because there were some really interesting ones, but I feel like I've exhausted everything unique and interesting about me in my Common and Why Penn...)

I got a little desperate writing my Why Penn, because I had a lot to write and my introduction took forever, and I started slowly changing the font size by .5 to fit one page. Right now its Times New Roman size 10...

I just finished my Why Penn and it's 715 words, exactly a page single-spaced.
I'm a bit worried about its quality though... I like my autobio essay more.

My Why Duke is like 300 words, and my Why Penn was like 700 even though both schools have programs I'm really interested in (Health and Societies with a concentration in International Health at Penn, Cultural Anthropology at Duke).

Hmm, my "Why X College" essays weren't as creative as, say, the autobiography essay or the personal statement, but I did write them as creative pieces as opposed to a blander format.
I don't know though, because colleges are looking for things unknown to me.

I agree, Javous. I don't beat around the bush for Why X essays, I tell them exactly what interests me and that's it; there's no need to list every fact you can find about the school.

I was very sweet and concise in my essays. I don't like to draw out my writing because that makes it dull and boring, I get to the point quickly but nicely.
