I will be enrolling in Community College starting this January. I was accepted to all the schools I had applied to but can not afford a big hefty tuition every year. I was just wondering if FAFSA would award me more than just tuition (2800 a year.) It's just my mother with 5 kids and no contribution (on social security benefits due to disability.) 2 other children are enrolled in tier-1 schools receiving full scholarships. I was just wondering if there is any chance any aid will be given towards transportation fees/books/ etc. etc. as appose to aid given based on tuition only. thank you.

I was in a similiar situation -- attended CC with a 0 EFC. It will vary from CC to CC, but in my case (and most of the people that I have talked with) is that you will get the full PELL grant and might be offered a partial stafford or perkins loan and that is all. I got enough to cover tuition and books and a little extra. The COA limits the amount of funds you can qualify for -- since the total COA is less than most state schools, the amount that can be awarded will be less. I think you will find that your cost for schooling (tuition, books, fees and transportation) will be covered -- but you will most likely not get any money towards living expenses.
