Okay, here's my dilemma. As a sophomore, I got a pretty bad score on my first SAT (710M, 680CR, 650W with a 10 essay), but I didn't study.

How much can I expect to improve in a month (I'm taking the May SAT) given that I actually learn my grammar rules (I never learned them because I slept in school until 9th grade, where they expected me to know them all), study 20 words per day, and work on my math accuracy (I got the hard questions right on the March SAT as far as I know so it must have been stupid mistakes)?

Pretty bad score? Excuse me, a 2040 is really not a bad score. I would say its very good (maybe not by CC standards, but by normal people standards it is), ESPECIALLY for a sophomore, with no SAT prep. I would say if you take it again with some kind of prep you should be able to get a 2200 or so.

Thanks, all! For this test, I'm going to work through one comprehensive book. I'm looking at Barron's and Gruber's since they both seem to be 'textbook' like with more than just stupid strategies (ala princeton review).

I recommend the College Board official book because its practice tests are the most accurate.

But why are you taking it twice as a sophomore? a lot of tries with a few point improvement between them isn't going to help you. wait until fall of your junior year (at least) to take it again. what's the rush?

Well, I know that in my junior year I'm going to be extremely busy with about 8 APs, so I don't really want to have to worry about the SAT again. Besides, it'd be nice to have a 2200+ score as a sophomore, ne?

I have the blue book, but it doesn't seem to actually teach material...I guess I'll take a test from it every week until the test.

Barrons has an EXTENSIVE math review, short writing review, and long but useless CR review... (I have no experience with Grubers)... but since your math is ok, I would not recommend Barrons SAT.

BUT, I would recommend Barrons' individual workbooks
