Us community college kids don't have to worry about the first two years of overpriced tuition at four year universities, but the second two are still fair game. As a transfer student, how much debt do you plan on graduating with? What did you do to reduce your debt while still in college? What scholarships, grants, and the like are available to transfer students?

probably around 40k XD

I plan to live on campus the first year and live at home the second so I will pay only 10K for the two years with fin aid.

hmm maybe 15k :/. not sure though. thanks for reminding me… better me worth it (of course it will!)

None because my parents saved up for four years and only have to pay for two.

when do we get loans for fall??

thanks for rubbing it in, logic -_-

I’ll still have grad school debt, probably more than 15k.

15k isn’t that much either, most people who have debt have a lot more.

too much >_>

No more than 15k. Probably closer to 10k.

Hoping no more than 10k…

So how did you guys keep your debt so low? Parents’ money, financial aid, scholarships, grants, what? I’m trying to figure out what I can reasonably expect to graduate with in debt.

Fin aid. And living at home for the second year unless I really really love living on campus which i doubt for 2 years one is fine

if my fin aid status stays the same…then 0 debt : ] my mom is paying for the loans+i am doign work study.

I’ve taken out $16k already and need $4k for this year to be safe ($6k of that was through a private loan when I thought I was going to be running down to SBCC back in 2008). So I’ll be transferring with $20-21k debt, but remember, I’ve been going to CCs for four years instead of two so my debt will be higher than most (thank you SBCC making getting down there impossible and causing me to essentially waste two years on B.S. classes ((although that may have paid off)))

dude why didnt you do the board of governers waiver?

Yeah, BOG saved my life these past two years. Well, that and the pell grant. I made money by attending a JC!

^ Same here. I made bank attending community college.

awww. i only got the BOG. i love BOG too though

I worked for a number of years before going back to school and saved up about $40K just for school. Going to CC was awesome cause I could continue to work and pay for classes out of pocket, thus reducing my burn rate to only over 2 years instead of 4.

So, the theory is, I will be able to go to UCSD and support my family for two years without having to work. By the time I get to grad school though, all bets are off, and I’ll probably have to go into a little debt.
