How much did you get in financial aid?

I was just curious as to what everyone has been offered through FAFSA for Cal Poly. Here’s mine:

I was offered a federal pell grant: $5,550
was offered a Federal SEOG pell grant: $900
was offered state university pell grant: $5,970

Was also offered a federal stafford sunsidized direct LOAN: $5,500
and also a federal stafford unisubsidized direct LOAN: $6,938.

Total of $24,858 for the 2012-2013 academic year.

Is this good/bad? A lot of money? A little? I am considered low-income and my EFC was 0. Should I take up the school’s offer on the loans? Is it worth doing or is it a rip off? Also, scholarships you have to look for yourself, right??

Konaluv, I received the same amount u did too… And I don’t know if is a lot or not and I’m debating to take the loans or not… I got in
For animal science and I’m frm the LA area and u?

I feel Cal Poly the school hasn’t released any of their aid out yet, just federal and state. Same package as you guys.

Sent from my LG-P505 using CC

I got:
ederal pell grant: $5,550
was offered a Federal SEOG pell grant: $900
was offered state university pell grant: $5,970
work study $2800
Stafford subsidized loan $3500
and some other unsubsidized loans which I will not take out as the interest starts now. I don’t want loans that are accruing interest now.

My packages from UCSB and UCSD were better than SLO’s package. I think the problem is that SLO is charging (~$9000) in tuition and fees and the state only pays $5970 for a Cal State. so right off the bat you are down over $3000.

Fanatic, I’m hoping you are correct, but if you add up the aid packages, they amount to full tuition, R&B. Nothing but loans in my son’s aid.

Beatrice,

Congrats on getting in as an Animal Science major! I am an Animal Science major as well from Orange County (I live in the city of La Habra). Ya I’m still debating whether or not I should take out loans, too. It looks like I’m probably going to have to. Someone told me to start looking into scholarships, apparently you can get a lot of money from those. Are you a freshman or a transfer? Are you going to live on or off campus?

@fanatic 16… u till cal poly is still going to realese more money for us?

@konaluv, thank u… congrats to u too…im going to be a tranfer and U?yes im planning ing getting a dorm… omgg la habra really thats close to me…yes i heard that cal poly automatically qualifys u for scholarships, but i think if im not mistaken is for the spring quarter… yea im going to look for scholarships too… im going to open house friday april 13th how about u?

I don’t think there is more money coming from Cal Poly unless you get a scholarship.

Is Cal Grant separate or included in this package?
If I update my Cal Grant account to say I’m going to Cal Poly, will they deduct the CG amount from the State University Grant amount?

I got $13,221 in grants plus an opportunity for work study ($2,400). This may change a bit though since I recently updated my family size from 6 people to 5 people.

The cal grant amount for SLO is the 5,970 already shown as a state university pell grant so if they change the name to Cal Grant the other will go away. You will not get both.

KonaLuv, did you go to lhhs or sohs?

I got the same amount. Funny how its costing me more to go to a cal state than it is for a Uc (San Diego)

I got $25k in loans! :D
