Close to $1500 on app fees, SAT score reporting, transcript, etc. Add another $1000 for SAT prep (because I’m not self disciplined enough to study myself) and at least $1000 for travel fees.

Scary.

Scary.

about a $100

I’m such a dork – I actually wrote it up: $1,361.00 for app fees, testing, and… sadly, that’s about it.

$75 for some schools, then taking and sending my 10-12 scores (only 4 waivers) was fun. Every time I in put my credit card, it was most definitely, “ouch.” =/

(Not including the many, many gallons of gas driving up and down the East Coast – luckily, no planes… yet. Can’t even think about that yet…)

Sadly, I just realized that that was only for 8 schools… =(

Applying to 30 schools.

Only did 1 visit, combined with family “stay-cation” trip. I’ll count as $0.

Will spend about $350 in app fees, plus more for score reporting.

I spent about $250 on standardized testing, not including AP’s

I’d estimate $300 on prep books for various tests and college guides, however they helped me completely learn 2 AP courses to the level of passing (self-study), help me pass my other 2 AP courses, and earn 18-24 credit hours at any state or private school in Ohio. In addition, my ACT/SAT scores put me at top merit scholarship levels for most uni’s in Ohio and surrounding states.

With an estimated $200 in score reporting, that brings my cumulative college prep total cost to $1,100. Considering that I’ve earned an average $60,000 in merit scholarships at each college I’ve applied to, a roughly 6,000% gain on my investments is not such a bad deal :)

I’d est. $300 on college books (just about colleges/applying or otherwise).

$341 on the AP tests, then another $120 on testing materials (prep books.)
[I’m guessing I’ll spend another $344 on tests this year, and $60 on test prep]

$90 on the SAT + $40 on Study Materials ($20 on test prep for the PSAT, then $13 for the test itself…) $63 on the SAT II’s I DIDN’T take.

ACT: $168 after extra scores [plus three books, $60]

$25 on applications. I got all but one (In-state financial safety, natch) Waived.

Two college trips out of state, paid nothing, but still spent $120 in necessary ‘trip’ money for food in airports, etc.

$20 for my file keeper, in order to maintain all my work, letters, etc.

$9 in stamps and postage.

$1,793 if my calculator is working.

And that doesn’t include the CSS PROFILE. Whoops.

Wow. I’d started this thread because I was feeling guilty about how much college is costing me before I’ve even got in.

I’m much better off, compared to most of you guys:

So, altogether, I will have spent about $400 (most of that will probably be coming from my own pocket; my parents don’t even want me applying to privates). It’s not including travel, but I won’t think about that yet.

With test scores and app fees, we probably spent over $600. Now that I’m doing a quick run through of my taxes to get ready for FAFSA, I’m wondering why these fees don’t qualify for a deduction as college-related expenses??!!

Taking the SAT: 130 something
Sending the SAT Scores: 120 (HOW THE **** DOES IT COST 10 DOLLARS TO SEND A SCORE REPORT?!)
App Fees: 150 bucks (i got waivers… )
CSS / Other Crap: 100 maybe?

375 dollars :

Okay. I’m going to tally it up.

Stanford: $90 + $9.50 + $9 + $9
Brown: $75 + $9.50 + $9 + $9
Yale: $75 + $9
UofC: $65 + $9.50 + $9 + $9
Pomona: $65 + $9.50 + $9 + $9
UC B: $60 + $9.50 + $9 + $9
UCLA: $60
UC D: $60
UCSD: $60
UofT: $85 + $9.50 + $9

Community College Transcripts: $35
SAT I + II Testing w/ late fees: $45 + $47 + $45 + $68 + $70 + $22
ACT Testing w/ late fees: $68 + $45 + $45 (is this how much it is? I can’t remember…)
Prep Books: $19 + $18 + $25

Total: $1,409

$121 in CSS Profile fees; $140 in application fees (for two) - the other four were free. In total, $261, which is inconsequential in comparison to a preliminary financial aid offer of $47,000 at my EA university.

omg over $1,000 on 12 college apps & sending scores. that excludes SAT & ACT & AP test fees and study guides. soooo glad i got a job before all this or else my parents definitely would of not been able to afford all this.

it’s ridiculous how much i’ve spent on colleges
including APs, SATs, ACTs, and college app fees, i’ve paid about $1,000-$1,500
…i probably should have filled out that fee waiver :s. my fam is probably going to live on the streets now.

I applied to 3 schools.

$170.

AP Exams: $774
AP Review Books: $120
SAT I and II and PSAT: $167
ACT: $47
SAT/ACT Review Books: $80
Applications: $140 (Fortunately I only had to apply to two schools since I was accepted
CSS Profile: $25 early into my first choice :D)

Total: $1,353

$200-300, at most.

5 schools including one free.

I get free lunch, so I do my applications by hand and send them in with a fee waiver form. And then I used the College board’s 4 free SAT reports they giver you… So far, me appling to colleges = $0.00

About $50 I think.

Apps- Will spend circa $500

Standardized tests- $150

Visits- ~$700 (planes and stuff)

Value of setting foot on CMC campus- Priceless.
