I've been crunching the numbers, and its going to cost me (and my family) around $700 dollars to apply to 6 colleges. (FYI, I live overseas.)

Testing:
--SAT Reasoning (twice), plus international fee
--ACT
--3 SAT Subject Tests, plus international fee
--TOTAL: $235

Application Fees:
--6 colleges (fees range from $50 to $70)
TOTAL: $335

Postage
--DHL/UPS envelopes/postage
--TOTAL: $90

Miscellaneous:
--Transcripts
--Envelopes/labels
--Etc.
--TOTAL: $20ish

TOTAL: around $700

Even if I weren't applying from overseas, this is an insanely expensive process!! Wonder what my parents will think... :(

An unfortunate effect of the college admissions process, last year I had actually applied to 12 colleges, plus fees for SAT's, SAT II's, AP's, postage, reporting costs, etc. has me at around $1400, luckily my parents were so understanding and lucky for me I got a pretty sweet FA package or else they would have killed me.

:(:(...don't colleges agree that their yearly cost is more than costly?

don't know where exactly you live but most likely you forgot transportation expenses to and from the test centers ;)

b@r!um: where I live, gas is about 25 cents a gallon. :P

The application cost is what prevents kids from applying to several dozens of schools and wasting the ADCOMs time!

Oh, and I forgot the $9.50/additional school for SAT scores and $8/school for the ACT. That's at least another $50. Woe is me!

Don't forget to add in the CSS Profile...$5 registration plus $18 per school. ;)

Ugh. I'm applying to 5 colleges, I think (I might add one or two more). SAT says only 4 schools for free, yes?

Lame.
