admissions costs

Just wondering what everyone else was spending on applying. 'Cause the costs are a little astronomical... at least I think so.

Let's see, I'm applying to fourteen schools, so:

(1) $10 to send official transcripts per school: $140
(2) 4 stamps ($1.48) per big envelope plus SASP for transcripts per school: $20.72
(3) 3 stamps ($1.11) per teacher rec envelope plus SASP for teacher recs per school: $15.54
(4) $9 per school for SAT Score Reports: $126
(5) Approximately $50 application fee per school: $700

TOTAL: $1002.26

Plus the cost to fly across the country to look at some of these schools... not to mention the cost once I actually get into one and go... all private...

So yeah. I'm a little over a thousand. Anyone else spending lots of money this time of year, and not just on Christmas presents?

More like 65 dollars per application fee.
Applied to 7 schools:

65x7 = 455 dollah
CSS Profile(only needed at 4) 18x4 = 72 dollah
SAT Scores (4 free) 9x3 = 27 dollars
ACT Scores 7x2 = 14 + 8 (to view early)
Stamp Money - Estimated 25 dollars

My total came to $601
(but still a lot more than we can really afford)

Ehh, my fees tend to range between 40 and 60 so I figured I'd pick a happy medium.

When I took the SATs I didn't really know where I wanted to apply, so I didn't take advantage of the four free thing. And my school charges a hell of a lot to send transcripts, and adds postage.

And really, if you think about it, that's an @$$load of money invested in a lot of places you won't end up going.

Spent $665 on seven college app., 4 SAT tests, sending scores, CSS profile, transcript requests. Might have to rush January reports though ($26). Just thinking about how much this costs is making me sick.

$20 processing fee charged by school, $12 in excess transcript fees, $9 for one SAT score report (all others done free), approximately $5.55 in stamps, and $150 in application fees (only 3 required fees because of applying online) - for a total of $196.55 for 9 applications!

$65 for application fee
~$10 for mailing everything

Thats it! I just applied ED one place and got in!

hmm this is fun. For the heck of it, I'll add my entire senior year.

Avg app fee - $65 x 6 = $390
Audition fee = $45
(no idea how much the stamps cost)
Sending SAT scores = $27
SATs I've taken this year = $135
Buffet R13 Clarinet much needed for college = $2200
Senior Trip = $900
AP cost x 3 = $240
Stats eval = $80
Homecoming = $75
Prom = $300
= $4392 holy crap I'm sorry mom and dad.

Appsx6 = $360
CSS Profile(3) 18x3 = $48
SAT Scores (7) 9x7 = $49
Stamps + ground mail + junk= $60
AP Score (1) = $15
Total: $542
Well, my rationale is
Having me as a son: Priceless
=P

~30 total envelopes x 0.37 = $11.10
SATII fee = $60
SATI fee ($41.50) x 2 = $83
PSAT fee ($10) x 2 = $20
3 AP tests = $246
Sending SAT scores = $90
Application fees = $430
Total: $940.10

Plus, sending ACT scores is a crapload because you have to do it for every test.

ugh, i don't even want to count. I'm too embarrassed.

Oh jeez:
Sending SAT I's: $6
Sending ACT's: $35
SAT I Fee: $42
ACT Fee: $45
App Fees: ~$440
CSS Profile: $140
Postage: $12
Gas driving to info sessions, etc: $20
Transcripts: $22.50
Total: $762.50...granted, not that bad for applying to 10 schools total....and this all afforded me, ACCEPTANCE TO TUFTS UNIVERSITY ED I!! lol...not bad....

Geez, what's with the transcript fees? At my school, official transcripts are free, but you have to give them a stamped envelope if you want it mailed.

Well, so far for my senior year, fee's have included

$205- application fees
$15- mailing stuff at the post office
$300- yearbook & senior ad
$40ish- SAT
$100ish- Graduation announcements + cap&gown

other fees to come include senior trip($who knows), orchestra trip($250), and much more

And do any of your schools charge you for sending your transcript? Our charges about $6 for each one over 4. Then there's the 'rush' fee we paid to the SAT people because in reading their site it sounded like it would take 6 weeks to get them there otherwise. And the SAT prep fee? And did anyone end up using a 'counselor' to assist with essay development (a lot of kids at our school do this). And what about all the Coke's for all the time spent writing 10 different essays (didn't someone say that once you developed one or two good ones, you could reuse them...somehow "describe why you want to go to Syracuse" didn't get answered in those first two).

Yep. Our school charges ten bucks a pop (plus postage) to send transcripts.

And yeah, for my "why..." essays, I have a general template/intro and a general conclusion, and then I go into specifics in the middle. But my essays are totally BARELY reusable. Like, I wrote like seven... and some of them can be used twice... and I still need to write some...

So we'll see.

Wow! I am surprised to see that many of you spent so much money on applying to college! For me, I can only apply to a max of 6 schools (my HS only allows that many number)

APplication fees: $0 (Mostly free online applications)
3 SATs and 1 time SAT II: $200+ (International student)
Postage: $25

Just narrow it down to the college that you know you will admitted to and apply there. I spent $30 on the application fee for one school and that was it.

applied to 5 colleges
total, about $80

Sending SAT scores (911) = $99
Official School Transcripts/Mid-Year Report/Most Postage (511) =$55
App fees (between 55 and 70 * 11) = about $715
Postage for random stuff I don't send through school = maximum $2.00

TOTAL Application Costs: $871

Oh I forgot how much I spent actually paying for the SAT/ACT tests.
Let's see...one ACT, 4 Sat2s, SAT once in 10th grade, twice in 11th grade.

That's probably at least 200 dollars. Disgusting.
