$156 - four classes

Around $400 short of UCLA's per quarter estimate to be spent on books :D

4 classes. $100, plus probably another $35 for a reader.

/Which is the most I've ever spent in one quarter, actually.

3 classes - $300 (5 books, 2 of which purchased through UCLA)

UCLA's estimated prices for my books was $372

how do you guys get cheap books like this? I got 2 books for $60 each and that was less than half the price the bookstore charges. I thought that was cheap.

I'm kinda frustrated anyway, I bought those books a while ago (Econ 41 and econ 11) just to find out that the econ department changed the required books a week later.

Does this happen frequently? Should I just wait until classes start to be sure that I get the right books?

What?!
Did you guys buy all of your books off half.com/amazon.com?
I ended up having to pay $300 this quarter.

i spent like $170 so far. still need a couple things. but my big textbooks carry over for the next classes in the series so i expect my next quarter's book expenses to be very minimal.

yea I bought all of mine on Half.com

Does anyone know if it's too late to order books from UCLA online and then pick them up? I need to buy a book, and I'd prefer it be used. How likely will it be for them to still have used books?

all my books are the same price if not cheaper at the student store, than at half.com, or amazon... is that cuz i was too late and all the cheaper ones ran out or what??????????????

^

Yeah, most likely.
When did you start browsing / purchasing your books?

Modernfuturist: It's too late to order books and pick them up. The deadline was the 20th. However, you can still run over to the textbook store and buy it there, though there weren't many used copies left.

Have you tried the textbook section of bruinwalk.com?

I spent about $170 so far.

$120 and a reader to be determined.

Sadly...yes. Used books online are always in limited supply, and you have to usually buy them a bit earlier than at the bookstore.

I find that it's best to start looking for the books for the next quarter around week 9 of the current quarter. That way I can jump on the cheapest, rattiest books.

Oh, and readers suck.

^

I absolutely HATE raggedy books!

D spent about $180.00 for 2 new and 1 used all from UCLA bookstore.

nikkei,

Haha, I was just being facetious. I try to go for "like new" with very little writing in them. Most people highlight too much in their books, making them an electric neon mess.

^

Haha, I hear you. Sometimes I find the previous owner's notes / highlighting helpful, however.

I'm proud to report that nobody would EVER find my notes helpful. My handwriting's too awful. :D
