I was a straight A student for the past few years, but this year I took double (3 last year, 6 this year) the amount of APs I took last year and struggled a lot this quarter. I got a B in AP Lit when I discussed literature as being one of my main passions in my essays and only a B+ in AP Chinese when I talked about endorsing Chinese culture(as a former Chinese citizen, though I’m a US citizen now). I’m very worried that this sudden decrease in grades will cost me an acceptance (assuming that, for argument’s sake, I would have been qualified enough to be accepted with continued straight As).
Would Brown ever accept a student who suddenly had a drastic decrease in grades in the first quarter of senior year ED?
Also, has anyone gotten into Brown ED (or just applied in the past) without being asked for 1st quarter grades? If not, when did admissions officers call your guidance counselor for your grades (late November? early December?)
Just to clarify, I mean 1st quarter as in the grades that come out at around early November, not first semester. My school uses the quarter system and, although first quarter grades don’t show up on my transcript, I heard Brown will personally ask your guidance counselor for the grades – not the midyear report.
If you know the answers to any of my questions, please let me know or PM me. Thank you so much.
