How much do erg times improve? (Boys)

I am currently a 15 year old, lightweight sophomore. We just had a 2k today and I pulled a 6:46.2. Coming off of a back injury which stopped my ability to erg heavily and for good lengths of time (good bye steady state!) and dealing a cold, I may have been able to pull a bit faster. We have a 2k in another 2 weeks (a week from Saturday). If I keep up my preparation, including my additional 10k or so meters a day outside of practice, will I be able to break 6:45 or beyond? I hope to be under 6:40 (A reasonable goal by my coach and my own standards) by the end of summer and be ready to go when I can start talking to college coaches next year (and I have a good amount of on-the-water/racing experience to complement my erg scores as well).

How much do boys usually drop over the course of a year and a half or so keeping up rigorous training and staying in good health? What sort of times do Ivies look for (I'm really interested in Cornell, Dartmouth, and UPenn).

Thanks for the help; I'm just trying to plan ahead and set myself goals for the future.

Sounds like you are heading in the right direction as your earlier posts of winter your times were sub 7…and you are certainly chipping away at it.

As a sophmore you have lots of time til you have to have a “recruitable” time etc jr yr

Relax. You have lots of time. Stay focused on classwork, etc. Sleep, eat right and avoid injuries.

Your coach has likely told you what the stats need to be for recruiting, as CRI is a great club. Good luck

OP

How did the next 2k go? Are you feeling better?

6:41.0

Back is fine. Physical therapy helped a ton. Boating is going well, too.

Good news. Sounds like you have a lot to look forward to over the coming years if you enjoy the sport to put in what it takes at the collegiate level
