How much do high assets/non-custodial parental income affect eligibility for the Carolina Covenant?

I was hoping someone here with knowledge of the Carolina Covenant can help me.

I live in a single-parent household of three (my mom, me, and my younger brother) that makes about $23,000. I think we qualify for the simplified needs test for FAFSA, but there is still the CSS profile, which takes assets into account. Last year, I inherited a semi-large sum of money (I think it all totals to about $15-20k). It is currently in a trust in my name that I can’t access until I am 26.

My parents are divorced, and my dad makes significantly more than my mom, but he doesn’t have custody of me, and provides little financial support. My question is if I would still be eligible for the covenant, because I think that my mom’s income makes us eligible, but I have no idea how the other factors come into play.

In state or OOS?

If you are instate then you might be eligible for UNC system grants which seem to be be based on FAFSA EFC and not the CSS Profile.

I know it is not what you asked.
