I just got my scores today and I was a bit dissappointed. I got a 4 in US History, a 4 in Calculus and a 5 in English Language. Chemistry I got a 2. I am looking at Ivy League schools and as it is looking now, my SAT scores are matching up really well so I am wondering if my AP scores will harm me greatly. I am not going to report Chemistry. I hear that some schools don't consider AP scores and have also heard that AP scores don't play a role in admission (except in some schools like NYU) so I am wondering if this is true. I want to go to schools like Northwestern and Brown.

Unless a school specifically says that they consider AP’s in admissions… (which is rare)

AP’s are only for credit.

Your 5 in Lang might give you credit for comp 101 or something

Your 4 in APUSH might give you an elective or 6 credits Us History

SAT II’s are for admissions however, make sure if your school needs them that you take them.

^^ that’s Northwestern’s <– they are very tough on AP credit

I should also ask, should I withhold or cancel? I can still mail in a cancel request and make it so that it is almost like my Chemistry score never even happened. Also I got a 750 on the US history test so will that help me?

Don’t worry about the 2. You don’t have to include it on your application, and if you get accepted then it doesn’t matter. Most colleges don’t even use AP scores as a factor in admissions.

I moved this thread to College admissions instead as I think it will be more relevant there.

AP scores matter more than just in college admissions, it is also about saving time and money. If you take an AP exam, pass it, and get credit for it, you don’t have to take as many courses when you go to college, thus saving time and money for better things!
