How much do YOU study at Cal?

Hi!

I will be an incoming freshman at Cal this fall and I (and many other freshmen, I'm sure ) am wondering how much do the seasoned vets of Berkeley study per week for their academic courses.
Can you guys list out your schedules from previous semesters and enlighten us about how much time you put in weekly to get whatever grades you've earned?
Maybe even how much you studied for MT and finals?
Its obvious that Berkeley is rigorous academically, but I feel that it would be helpful to quantitatively gauge the intensity of classwork at Berkeley beforehand so us freshmen can be mentally prepared.

Thanks!

depends on teacher. will be harder than high school for sure.

MCB classes: be prepared to study your butt off. Easiest classes were Chem1A, Math1A, Bio1B, and Physics 8A/8B (depends on instructor; I didn't study that much with Jacobsen teaching and I got an A).

Suicidal classes that will literally eat up ALL your time: Chem 3A, Chem 3B, Bio1A, Bio1A Lab.

Don't be fooled by Bio1AL's 2-unit billing. It will be the hardest 2-unit class you will ever take. It is an insane amount of work for 2 units. Honestly, it feels like it should be worth 4 units.

Depends on the teacher, yeah, but more importantly, depends on the class and your familiarity with the subject matter. You can't really quantify it, because there's so many variables. Really. Interest = motivation = ease. That's my formula, anyway. Then put that in a negative formula. Courses you need to take that you have absolutely no interest, so getting up much motivation to study or even go to class is exactly the opposite of what you need to do to get through the course with any success. Best thing to learn is organizing time. All work and no play. . . .

Maybe 2 hours per week for every hour spent in a class? I've heard lots of figures thrown out.

2 hrs per week? i have 24 hours of class... is that 48 hrs of studying? "/

...welcome to college?

actually it depends on YOU.
The grades you get depend not only on spent time but also how focused you are in learning the material.
It's all about time management.
Here's a blog on how to really study in college without turning into a zoombie
Study Hacks

wow thats a cool site =)

I don't know anyone who does the 2:1 homework:class ratio. I spend on average about 10-12 hrs per week working on school stuff outside of class, which is more like a 2:3 ratio.

I study 3 hours every week. For the week leading up to midterms/finals, I study maybe 10-15 hours a day. Procrastination works wonders for me.

I was never good at math . . . . :D -- I just work hard on stuff that doesn't come naturally for me and take it easy on courses that do. No idea what the real formula is, if there is one. I was just throwing it out there for personal views.
