Both my parents went to Rice, and my aunt. They all still give a great deal of money. I've got average stats for the school and ECs that most people don't have. How much do you think the legacy helps?

I would like to know as well. I have both parents as legacy, 3 aunts/uncles and a grandfather who was a professor there for 40 years. I was a national merit scholar, 75th percentile SAT scores, but class rank of about 15%, and i applied ED. How much will the legacy help?

Someone asked that in an information session that I had attended, and they SAY that they only look at it and it doesn’t necessarily help much. Is that how it works, you ask? I really don’t know…I’d think that they’d consider it a bit more.

Yeah, what ive heard is that if you have a considerable legacy, if youre a qualified applicant then youre basically in. Its a major hook

What is considered a considerable legacy?

westham, we understand what your stats are. Youve bumped ure chance thread about 1000 times and told us about your legacies in every damn thread. I know its boosting your ego but just calm down and wait like the rest of us. Like most people said, your most likely in. Now stop.

A Legacy is any close relative that attended the specific school your applying to. Yes it is a hook, but it will not guarantee admission. It does help though. Whether it gets you in or not depends on the adcoms.

Well cowking I thank you for your opinion and wish you luck on getting in and to Sarah, if I made it seem like an automatic admission it is not. But it does help alot, moreso than say, a URM status.
