legacy?!

how much do you think being a legacy at rice matters? both my parents and my aunt went there..

i have kind of low test scores, but great grades with a tough schedule and an upward trend, dedicated ec's, and good essays and recommendations

rice is my number one school.. i won't even consider other places if i get in!

ps i hate how decisions are taking their time.

apply ED. …

I think legacy counts a little. You do not want to be admitted and unable to keep up with your peers. I know many alumni with kids who got rejected. UT or TAMU was the place for them.

how low?

and what’s your rank?

Essays–they matter!

1350, 2030
not sooooo bad, but not good

top 10% at a really competitive high school. pretty sure the top 20% of my class has applied out of state private colleges like this. 3.82 uw, 4.3 w

7 years ago, twin boys who were double-legacies applied to Rice from DD’s school. NMF or commended (can’t remember which), very high SAT scores and top 5% rank - did NOT get accepted. I know that they/parents/DD were surprised. I don’t think Legacy at Rice is a guarantee of much, but they do seem to be more favorable towards sibling pairs. Both my kids were accepted to Rice (though both had excellent stats), and they knew of quite a few more kids with sibling at Rice. (Though that isn’t sure thing either: they also know of many whose sibling were not accepted…) Really, the only thing to do is apply and see. Rice wants energetic, motivated, smart and interesting kids from a variety of backgrounds and experiences. :)

It helps but I dont think much.

My mom went there for grad school.
I got waitlisted. :p
