I go to a public school and it is top 100 in the state and top 200 in the country. I am currently ranked around 100 of 400. I have a unweighted 93 average taking honors and ap classes. Do you guys think that colleges will look down on this? ( I am a sophomore so I do have some time to raise this )
In every post about a high school, it is always top in the U.S. Where do people find all these HS rankings? Just do your best and don’t sweat this level of detail.
You can find them on US news.com its where all of the public highschools are. Private ones are on a website called niche.com. just typing your highschools name with the word ranking after it will pop up if your hs is ranked. Thanks for the comment!
It depends upon the college. If the students ranked 1 through 99 are applying to the same colleges as you, colleges will certainly compare your academic results to theirs.
One of these metrics is incorrect. The school that’s closest to 200 in the USNWR rankings in your state has a state ranking of 35.
sorry i looked at the wrong thing it is top 100 in-state and top 600 out of state, my bad
imo, high school “rankings,” especially merely top 100 in-state, isn’t really something to tout about. You will be assessed in comparison to your classmates and what your school offers, so rank matters to some degree.
ikr, and its top 600 nationally.
My parents literally moved because they didn’t want me to go to a school that’s ranked ~350 nationally. I moved to a high school that was ~100 nationally, but then transferred to a school ~200 nationally in order to bump my class rank.
Being in a top 600 high school nationally is literally nothing to brag about (it’s pretty average tbh). While being ranked (barely) top quarter is good, 25% class ranking at a school like that isn’t anything special.
Colleges won’t look down on your class rank – like everyone else when the time comes you will have to apply to an appropriate set of colleges given your academic stats.
And FWIW I never once heard an admission officer mention the USNWR ranking of a high school. Many admissions officers are familiar with schools in the areas the cover and don’t need to look at a ranking.
@RMNiMiTz dude chill out I wasnt trying to brag I was actually doing the opposite, asking if I was bad. I only said the rank of my school because I didnt know if it would change anything. I’m new to this, that’s way I’m asking this question.
