How much does it help to have a sibling legacy?

Like does your application get an extra thought from the admission office or something? Nearly guaranteed admission?

Extra thought? Possibly.

Nearly guaranteed admission? Not likely.

Extra thought? Probably. Guaranteed? Almost certainly not.

OTOH, what do we really know? All educated guesses on our part too.

IMO, siblings are a barb on a hook and not a hook. I think that if you’re in the running it will give the Admission team to pause and look. I believe a sibling currently attending can be more valuable than an alumni parent. I am aware of many instances where siblings do not get in. Parents and prospective students alike who are informed of the process are well aware that there is by no means any guarantee of acceptance. It does put pressure on the admissions team but they are hardened and use to the impending backlash from parents and alumni. It’s tough and not easy but the school is building a class and not handing out favors.
