How much does it matter/affect you if didnt report AMC on app?

Hey guys,

I submitted an application to CMU and they asked me if I had taken the AMC and if so what my scores were.I hadn't taken the official AMC at that time, but i'm wondering if taking it this coming feb. would help add to my application.

I took a random practice test without studying and scored around an 80. I was surprised that the AIME Qualifier is only like 88.5, which i'm sure I could get if I studied a little.

I applied to CIT w/a 3.65 UW, 710 SAT Math, 780 Math 2, and 680 physics scores. CMU is one of my top choices.
- my course rigor is also kinda iffy, going from honors math/sci classes(9th) to Regular(10th - 11th) and now im taking AP(12th)
Would it help boost my app if I took the official one and qualified for AIME? im planning to email them my score.

Pls help!!!=)

I guess it depends on the school you are applying to. For SCS, it is probably going to help. But, it does not make or break your application.

Almost always the AIME qualifying score is around a 100 for the AMC 12 and for AMC 10 it is around a 120. More than qualifying, it would be more beneficial to get a few problems right on the AIME (maybe 3+), which shows that you actually have skill and did not make it to AIME by being lucky on AMC.

Thanks^,

so is it still worth it to spend my time studying for the amc? and emailing them my score? if I do get to AIME, how long does it take for them to score exams and stuff,

would CMU have made its decisions by then?

Thankyou!
