how well does have a multi-national background help... im asian in the sense that my mom was born in india, but my dad was born in africa... i kno colleges seek diversity and although this isn't considered affirmative action because im not a "URM" do i still get an advantage??? and how do i designate this if it does give an advantage?.

you can put up to 2 ethnicities in addition to a race on the application I think for the duke supplement, in addition to the race on the commonapp

is it advantageous?

..uhh... being half chinese half korean doesnt help... but if you are an exotic mix of caribbean and african backgrounds then it might help you.

well my dad is from africa, mom india what bout that?

i'm not all that familiar with how ethnicity is treated, specifically. but i can tell you that it wont hurt your application, and it can be advantangeous if you find a way to present it so that adds to your character / identity.

Affirmative action is usually about skin color, not nationality.
