How much does my HS senior year transcript impact my chances of transferring universities?

I just finished my first semester of university and I ended up doing very well academically. Still waiting on the grade of one more class, but ultimately, my final GPA will be a 3.90 at best or a 3.86 at worst.

While I’m doing well academically, I don’t feel like my school is the right fit, and I’m thinking about transferring.

I understand that when transferring to enter a school as a sophomore, you must submit your high school senior year transcript along with your college freshman transcript.

I did pretty horribly in my senior year, especially in the second half (two C+'s).

Will these HS senior year grades destroy my shot at transferring into a prestigious school? Would it be worth it to spend another year at my current university so that I won’t have to send my HS grades?

Also, I’m currently at a “T25” school if that matters at all.

It depends upon the school(s) you are planning to transfer. Some colleges only take Junior level transfers like the California UC’s so 60 semester/90 quarter units and HS grades are not considered in the transfer process. Some schools if you are under a certain # of units, will consider your HS transcript.

In general, the more college units you have under your belt before transfer, the less likely your HS grades will be considered.

Look up each school’s transfer requirements.
