like doing well in competitions like siemens, isef, sts, jshs, etc.

yes research helps allotttt

a lot? like how much a lot?

Research is HUGE. My brother got into Stanford with two Ds -- I think it was research that got him in. But he had a paper, he didn't do any of those competitions.

I'm pretty sure paper outbeats all of those competitions because you compete with grad students and profs :)

does it really help a lot? its kinda unfair bc theres not alot of research opportunities outside of science/math

Does writing novels/getting published help with getting into college?

I haven't published anything, I'm just asking out of curiosity...

yea im wondering too

It depends.

If you're just piggybacking on a professor's idea, or your novel is ghostwritten, then it doesn't help.

But if everything is your idea, then yea, it helps A LOT.

Whats paper????? like a published research paper in a magazine???????? please explain???

Is applying to intel a plus, even if you dont win?
Also, would it be helpful to send research papers to colleges, or just the abstracts - and do you send these to admissions or to the sci dept??

---Research papers would be published in a scientific journal, but i think even if your research isnt published its still pretty great for your resume
