Ok so it looks like Rutgers in the school that I’m might be going to in a few years. I’m just wondering how much it actually cost for a person like me (only child lives in NJ) to attend rutgers for four years would it be more expensive or around the same if I attend a New York school.
Each school has a Net Price calculator on their website. Plug in the information and you will get an estimate of your costs.
https://financialaid.rutgers.edu/tools-and-resources/net-price-calculator/
Cost of Attendance (COA) is the cost of tuition, fees, room and board (fixed costs) as well as an estimate of costs for books, personal expenses, transportation, fun time money (flexible).
If you search College Data Rutgers COA you will get a number around $32,000. That is per year, and that increases every year by about 4%.
Minimum, if you graduate in 4 years (which only 80% do), your cost would be $32,000 x 4 = 128,000 (not counting the 4% increases).
that is the in state cost.
You mention costs of NY schools. You can do the same price check for them, just look at out of state if public (private schools are all the same regardless of where they are located and where you live)
NYU is $72,000 a year
SUNY-Albany is $40,000 a year
Financial aid is considered loans (which must be repaid) and grants, scholarship and merit aid (which do not have to be repaid). To qualify for grants you often have to have a financial need - typically your parents have to earn a salary of less that $60,000 a year for these. Merit aid is based on test scores, GPA, class rank etc. To retain the merit aid once you are in college you have to maintain a certain GPA. If you go below that GPA, you lose the merit money.
Rowan University, Stockton and Rampao offer excellent merit aid. Rutgers and TCNJ offer mediocre merit aid. Montclair offers none.
Good luck! If I can help answer any other questions, let me know.
