I messed up big time on my essay and only got about 3/4 of a page written. How much does the essay affect my total writing score?

the essay accounts for roughly 1/3 of your writing score

okay good thats not too bad. thanks:)

I have a bitter experience with the essay: you need a 10/12 for it not to affect negatively your score. For example, I had no error on the MC part and a 9/12 on the essay which led to an overall score of 790

I didn’t omit any, missed 2, got 10/12 on my essay and received a writing section score of 760.

It can affect you if you don’t get at least a 10. For most people that’s manageable, but you might as well practice your SAT Essay skills. I don’t have a great experience with the essay for some reason… I got an 8 on my June, with 1 MC wrong, and a 750. If I got a 10 (like a bunch of other people in my class can without really practicing)… I would’ve gotten much better. >.< I’m usually a pretty skilled writer, averaging 7s and 8s on AP timed writes, but the SAT essay is just a different set of skills. (Well, I suppose it’s just the real short time frame they give you… which I really should’ve practiced for.)

If it helps, I got a 10 and 2 multiple choice wrong on the Nov test and still got an 800

The Essay can cost you an 800 in writing, make sure you do your best on it.
