How Much Does U-M look at High School Freshman Grades

Hi I am a freshman in high school and I have a 3.7 GPA. I have always been an all A student up until this year. If I do better my next 3 years will cancel it out? I am a varsity swimmer, in marching band, jazz band, concert band, and Spanish club. I am also a Michigan resident. It has always been my dream to go to U of M and I would hate to settle for that school in East Lansing :P. If you have any tips please share them. Thank you and GO BLUE!!!!!!!!!

There’s like another thread with the exact same question…look down the list of threads :P. And a 3.7 isn’t bad for in-state, hopefully you took some honors as a freshman

Until recently, Michigan did not even consider freshmen year grades. They do now, but like most universities, freshmen year is not as important as sophomore year and sophomore year is not as important as junior year. A 3.7 GPA freshman year will not hurt you one bit if you gradually improve to 3.8 or 3.9 the next two years of high school.

That fact that you are thinking about it from now is a good thing, but do not let it consume you. Focus on the here and now and savour the moment. Start worrying about college in the fall of your Junior year, when you should start preparing for the SAT/ACT.

For now, do the best you can at school, take the toughest course load you can WHILE STILL MAINTAINING a very high GPA and continue to focus on your swimming and music. If you do, good things will happen for you!
