How much does varsity sports factor in for?

Hi this is just a quick question. Im aiming for nyu stern (you can see my stats in my other thread) and i was just wondering how much it would increase my chances to be on the varisty soccer team in 11th and 12th grade. Not captain, just a player. im pretty good at soccer but the coaches suck and it requires a ton of commitment and the coaches and other players kinda destroy my enjoyment in playing for the team. i think i can make varsity but it could affect my grades and take away from other ECs that could increase my chances. is it worth it to put all that time in effort in or shoould i just focus on clubs and other ECs and studying for SATs etc? thank you!

If you’re not an athletic recruit, it’s just another EC.

Exactly what skieurope said.

I recommend that you keep playing. It’ll show consistency in your commitments.

As per what the other users said. Are you passionate about soccer? Do you want to keep playing? While commitment is important, only do it if you truly enjoy it. For instance I did track for my sophomore and half of junior year, found that while it was great to do a sport and get some physical activity going, it was very time consuming and prevented me from doing my other ECs after school. So I quit the team and focused on after school clubs, which I was much more passionate bout. I gained alot of skills and rose up in leadership positions. It did not hurt me significantly in the college process. So follow your passion, whether that heppens to be soccer or another EC.
