How much does Wellesley value interviews?

I had my interview today and I think it went well but my interviewer was so lovely and passionate about the college and now I want to go there even more…
Just wondered how important the interviews were in admissions decisions? For most of the others I’ve applied to it seems to be ‘not very’, is this the same for Wellesley?

I’m an international by the way.

Thanks

The interview is given a fairly low weight relative to much more important factors such as GPA, academic rigor, and recommendations. The importance of the interview and other factors are found in the Common Data Set, such as listed here:
http://www.collegedata.com/cs/data/college/college_pg02_tmpl.jhtml?schoolId=195

For international students, the interview is not required and won’t hurt your chances if you didn’t have one. For U.S. students, the interview is strongly recommended though not required.

Good luck!

Hi @magtf1 that’s really helpful thanks!

My D is a Wellesley alum and does interviews. I don’t think they have that much influence. She said she’s mainly asked to evaluate whether or not they think the applicant is a good fit for Wellesley.

@college_query Thanks! That’s a shame but what I expected. Hopefully I passed on that at least

@greenstudent , if your interview went extremely well, they will remember you! And yes, that will only help.

@Massmomm I wouldn’t say ‘extremely well’ but it was good I think (then again I have a tendency to overthink things after so who even knows how it really went?) Thanks for the support!

If I submitted an interview request in mid December and still haven’t heard back, should I be worried?

@rustydreams Are you an international? It’s highly likely that there simply isn’t an alumni in your area, even if you’re in the US

nope I live in US in a pretty big city with a Wellesley alumni club :frowning:

I really wouldn’t worry about it. I was fairly surprised to get an interview because I’m not in the US and as they keep saying you won’t be at a disadvantage for not having had an interview

@rustydreams I recommend calling the Admissions office. The web site says to allow 5-10 days to schedule an interview. You’ve waited plenty of time so a phone call wouldn’t hurt.

@rustydreams Sorry if this is late, but I had the same situation. I emailed Wellesley and they told me that they sent my information to an interviewer a while ago, and they would remind the interviewer to accept the interview request again.

FWIW, D was accepted at Wellesley without an interview, as was her BFF
