I currently live in nyc, and am having a hard time choosing between john jay and BU. My man concern is cost and I haven't received a letter stating how much aid i will get from either. How much aid have some of you guys received?

Binghamton does not send a letter. You can check your financial aid award offer via [BU Brain](http://bubrain.binghamton.edu).

How do I check for how much I got after paying deposit? I can’t see it anymore??

blcistheking - I personally don’t think that any one else’s financial aid situation is anyone else’s business but their own. Binghamton will give financial aid out if it is needed…many people take out loans to cover their tuition…

^ I agree with you that it is my own personal business. BUT, on the fact that Binghamton will give out financial aid if it is needed… I’m not so sure.

I’m of a single parent household on Long Island. My mother barely makes enough to buy food and pay the mortgage most months, and still, we didn’t qualify for a Pell Grant because, while her salary is over the national average, the fed. government doesn’t take into account the expense of the cost of living on Long Island. So, I only received a small work study and a very small TAP award. The only thing that is making Bing affordable is the fact that even with the, frankly, pathetic amount of FA I’ve received, it is still the least expensive of my options. I’l still be at least $40k in debt when I graduate, that’s IF my mother gets a second job and I win some serious scholarship money.

But we figured it was better than being $100k in debt… which I would be if I went elsewhere.

When I log in to that site, how do I see how much money I get? I highly doubt I’ll get any, but I’m just curious.

go to bubrain, log in. go to financial aid, go to awards and click on awards summary

Wait, I am an international student. Then I don’t have the financial aid tab at all??? I am kinda confused.

Binghamton uses your Estimated Family Contribution in determining how much aid to award. It is exceptionally rare for freshmen to receive any merit-based aid whatsoever.

This is the only help I can offer, and it’s unlikely to apply to your situation: [Binghamton University - Financial Aid: Funding Needs](http://www2.binghamton.edu/financial-aid/funding-needs/special-circumstances.html)

Pell Grants are awarded to students with the absolute lowest EFC. Pipe Dream (student newspaper) recently reports that Binghamton only had 100 Pell grants for my aid year, and it has been increased to 150 students for your aid year. Pell grants have a maximum award of ~$5,500/yr and students with an EFC of $0 are the first to receive this grant.

I have an EFC of $500. Not going after Bing on it… more like the federal government, but we certainly cannot afford to pay $12k of tuition without making some drastic changes to our lifestyle (ie: selling our house).

Did you file your FAFSA past the suggested deadline (before February 1)?

I don’t see anything for financial aid, so I’m going to assume I’m getting nothing.
