How much financial aid did you get?

Just curious-- what/ How much would you guys called a decent/V.good financial package from BC if a student’s EFC is $1000? (the total cost is $53300)

I still haven’t gotten my package. I have called them a couple times but they keep saying they don’t have my forms, even though I know my parents have sent them. Anyone else having this problem?

How did XX55XX (EFC=0!) get less than SRB2006? Financial aid is so weird!

Well, perhaps it’s because I wasn’t as academically strong as SRB2006?

But I’m still relatively satisfied. Many people in my school got worse packages.

Now, hopefully I can appeal it and become a commuter student. This package is conditional, after all, and financial aid packages are finalized in July.

hmm i just got an email saying they adjusted my financial aid package…more grants! but still nowhere enough other offers…

I think BC looks for diversity too and I think that might be one of the major reasons (I might be wrong) that I got more Fin. aid than XX55XX. But tell you what, I don’t think they base it on academic performances. I know kids from my school who rank higher than me and got a lot less than what I got with almost the same EFC.

And yes it’s weird. I TOTALLY agree with that.

Maybe they just liked your application and deemed you a student who is perfect for BC.

Maybe, but I think it’s diversity that helped me to earn more aid than others. Because I know that I am not qualified for a school like BC and I am totally not better or even equal to you in respect to academics XX55XX. That’s why I think it’s my ethnicity and race that helped me the most…

Let me know how does your fin. appeal goes as commute student as I am thinking about that as well.

hm my EFC is around 8000, and i’m gonna be stuck paying around 20K.

amazing stuff it really is, especially since BC is my top choice, and i don’t really want to go to Amherst after visiting.

Finally got my financial aid today. MY EFC is about $2400. My package is for $44,000. It’s better than I expected.

wow… i feel so cheated…
my dad’s efc is 25k and my mom’s is 25k, they’re divorced, and i’m getting $4300 in scholarship money… so bc would be barely below 50k for me… idk what to do

^ Call your financial Adviser (It’s on agora) and talk to her about the whole thing. Hope you get some money.

^If your parents each have an EFC of $25k, then together that’s $50k. Unless I misunderstood you, the FA is right on target…

Hmmm… I got a new financial aid award today:

Federal Pell Grant - $5,350
Allston-Brighton Scholarship - $34,850
State Scholarship - $2,400

Total: $42,600

This considering that I am a commuter student, of course.

Well, I guess being a local kid has its benefits.

I am going to BC. No questions asked.

^55, does that mean you will be taking BU out of your location?

P.S.

I hope you reconsider living at BC. It’s a wonderful place to spend four years. You have enough money to live on campus without incurring much, if any, debt at all. Do reconsider.

Yeah, Reddune, I will do so, eventually…

I live in Brighton, and my house is only a mere two miles away from BC’s campus (and its accessible by the T (Washington Street Station), too). Plus, the scholarship does not cover room and board, only tuition, so I may have to shell out an additional $12,000 if I elect to live there.

Originally, my family was going to have to pay $14,000 a year for BC (including loans). So, paying $3,000 per annum (without taking out any loans either) at BU was enticing.

My plan was to go to BU, but now, with this scholarship, matters have changed.

EFC was $12,600

Total aid including work study, Stafford loans and BC scholarship/grant was 39,200. 2200 was work study and that left a billable amount of about 14,750. Also, BC estimates that “other” expenses will be around 1900. I have a sister who is going to college closer to home and her “other expenses” including personal, books and travel are around $3000. If I use that more realistic number of $3000 my cost to attend is around $55,000
