If you've heard from UChicago about merit aid, how much have you received? Does anyone know what the average amount that students usually get is?

I got $10,000 a year. I’m pretty sure about 10% of accepted students receive it, with there being three tiers (5k, 10k, 15k)

I got 5k, and I read somewhere that the average amount is 8k?

I haven’t gotten anything yet. Where do you check? I applied for need based aid but turned in parents tax returns late, could this be a reason why?

Magentaturtle, merit aid is not based on any financial info being filed; it’s based solely on merit. Last year, S '16 got an email notice telling him there had been an update to this accepted student portal and to check there. That’s where the merit award letter was. FWIW, it didn’t come until early February. I think you just have to be patient and hope you get a golden ticket. Good luck !

Is this merit scholarship one time or renewed each year?

Renewed, with no required minimum GPA, save the one you must maintain to graduate (according to the school website, an overall GPA of 1.75 and a GPA of 2.0 in your major/s.)

$10k in merit aid. It’s renewable, and just in case anyone was wondering how it affects your package, it’ll remove your work study and loans first, then if there’s any left over afterwards, it’ll nip away at your EFC.

(Took me a while to find that out since the FA office has been open on and off because of the break.)

I got a full scholarship.
~$43,000 per year. Renewable.

$5k. They probably gave it to me cuz I only got 5k for financial aid as well :/

Thanks Mutti! My D was disappointed no merit was given at the time of acceptance, so she can hope to hear later on then.

Did everyone else receive Merit award notifications with their admit decision letter for RD? We have not heard anything yet.
