How much higher should a weighted GPA be than an unweighted? I have a 3.5 uw…and a 3.85 weighted? Should my weighted GPA be higher than just 0.35?
This is where your rank comes into play to reflect how your weighted GPA stacks against others in your school. It differs from school to school.
It also depends on your school’s grading system. At my D’s school there was no difference between the weight of an honors or AP course, and it was just a small bump. Other schools have different multipliers.
There are so many weighting systems that this question can’t be answered.
My D will end up with a weighted that is more than 1.5 points higher than her unweighted (5.6+). This is impossible under many/most weighting systems and doesn’t mean it’s “better”.
Different high schools calculate weighted GPA so differently that it becomes an almost useless number.
I do not think that you should worry about it. I think that you should focus on keeping ahead in your classes and getting good grades.
