Is weighted or unweighted GPA better?

I have the option to put weighted or unweighted GPA on my application. Which one should I put, or does it not matter?

Incidentally my unweighted GPA is 3.98, my weighted is 4.81. I feel like the weighted one reflects the ****load of advanced classes I took so I should pick it, but idk. Adviceeee. (If I put weighted, then it’s “out of 5” on the CommonApp, right?)

No, it’s out of FOUR. the extra points for Honors/AP are just that, extra, not part of the scale.

DunninLA is right. Your weighted GPA is a 4.81/4.00

Whatever you put, it’s also on your transcript, they won’t miss it. And, adcoms will probably strip W back to UW, to create a level playing field. (Not all high schools weight by the same formula.) Each coll has its own method for this- usually cut out PE, maybe chorus or some unusual non-traditonal class your school requires, etc- and recalc the gpa.
