I am planning on transferring to UC Davis in Fall 2011 for Computer Science. I have completed the IGETC. I have also completed all of the courses listed at assist.org. However my CC did not offer any Computer Science courses which transferred to Davis. So, I am wondering once I transfer to Davis, how much longer will it take to get my degree? I am guessing it would take 2 years like it normally would. But that seems like a lot of courses to take in 2 years.

It depends. For technical majors, we’re advised to take 3 or at most, 4 major classes each quarter. My orientation counselor (OC) said the hardest quarter he had at UCLA was when he had to take 4 major classes so it’s really not advisable and people usually plan something like 3 major classes + 1 GE. In orientation we were given this sort of class checklist which included a fifth year for breathing room so we could take 3 a quarter instead of 4 to just to fit everything in two years.

In your case, you’d still have to take your cs prereqs so it will not be surprising if you spend 3 years in Davis which is pretty normal anyway for cs/engineering. My advise is to look at your catalog and all the classes you have to take and make a flowchart, noting which class needs which prereq and when it’s offered since some classes are not offered all terms.
