How much longer will I stare at this status?!

Whats the deal with the summer session… when does it start, how long is it??

good question. I am not sure when it starts. They will probably tell you in the acceptance package in the mail. I also wonder about dorm situations

Ahh I just got accepted to the college of communications at university park for fall 2011!! I figured my letter would arrive today but for some reason I decided to check my status at 1:00am! Idk why it was updated so early actually haha. Good luck to everyone! ! :)

Status changed at exactly midnight - soooooo happy! Accepted college of health and human development Fall UP!!!

still no change for me  i loooooooove waiting for 4 months…hurry up Smeal fo real.

mattw123 and worldhj4 - would you be willing to share your stats (I may be a summer candidate and am still waiting so I’m interested in seeing my chances)?

accepted summer 2011 too
not sure if i’m going to be able to afford it or not, but i hope i can because its my first choice  i was really hoping for fall but i’ll take what i can get!

I think there are 2 6-weeks sessions running June - early august, one right after the other. As I recall it’s about $5k or so. They say it’s a great way to get acclimated to campus on a relaxed schedule. It’s all somewhere on the PSU website.

To penn state main university park undergraduate studies fall. So excited

my only problem is, the first six week session, classes start mid may… and I don’t graduate until June? so do we only attend the second six week session?

DS found out this morning that he got into Altoona and not UP. We weren’t surprised that he didn’t get into UP but sort of surprised he didn’t get into summer. Sigh. He is pretty bummed out. Wouldn’t even talk to me about it. I went to Penn State myself and while I liked it very much I feel like Pitt is a better fit for him for various reasons. But he doesn’t want to think about anything right now except how upset he is. Hopefully, in a few days he will feel better. Good Luck to all who have not heard yet and congrats to all who got in!

motherto5 - where was he on the bubble chart? Did you apply for alternate campuses as well as summer? If so, you may want to give them a call. I’m not sure they would offer BOTH summer or an alternate campus so they may’ve just picked one.

PA2015, he applied UP, Summer and Altoona in that order. We called. They said he was reviewed for summer as well. They were nice but it is a numbers game, I guess. His SATs were low, 1170/1730. ACT a 25 (with combined English/Writing only a 22). GPA 3.2 uw, 3.7 weighted. On paper, he looks just like tons of other applicants. Good kid, lots of ECs, varsity football letterman, etc. It’s okay. He has lots of friends at Pitt and Penn State. Visited friends at Penn State last weekend and had a great time. He just wanted to go there more. As a parent, I want to tell him that it will all work out. He can always transfer to Penn State after a year or two at Pitt if he does well. He doesn’t want to hear it right now, though. I don’t think he has any shot at all at this point even if he sends an appeal letter.

motherto5, based on those stats, it looks like he was right in the middle of the yellow bubble chart and so I’m really surprised he didn’t get into summer, especially if his weighted GPA was out of 4.4. That said, Pitt’s a great school and he’s going to end up loving it and never look back.

Motherof5: What parent can’t identify with that horrible feeling of seeing a kid’s disappointment. We, as parents, know that he’ll bloom where he’s planted and will meet his 'friends for life" maybe a potential spouse where he eventually attends and (at least in my case) I WANT to throw out a whispered “I told you so” because of video gaming over test prep…texting over homework…but it makes no difference. :frowning: Has anyone brought up ( I’ve never seen it) the question of whether or not opting to select a second campus might work against a kid that, like you said, is so similar in stats to hundreds of others? It’s a great option for PA kids who really need an in-state school, but PSU is a business. I’ve noticed a lot of universities these past years wanting to fill every possible seat. AT NYU, they have a LSP program for kids that “just miss” and send others abroad freshman year. Maryland offers Spring 11 semester and a wacky “live off campus, take classes after 3pm when no one else wants them option” In my heart I see a lot of people saying they “wrote Altoona as an alternate, got in but had no intention of going there” From a business perspective, if you had two kids WITH THE EXACT borderline-ish stats, EC’s…and one choses an alternate campus…wouldn’t you put them there if you wanted every seat filled? I know PSU/UP will deny this up and down forever…but I wonder?

Motherof5: hope your son doesn’t feel too bad because Pitt is a great school too, not to mention a great city. My D was accepted to both Pitt and PSU but is really leaning toward Pitt right now. Pitt has great academics and pleny of school spirit, but in addition there is so much to see/do in Pittsburgh plus tons of opportunities for internships.

they do have busses that run back and forth between the two campuses so if he has friends at PSU they can definitely visit each other

imani did you get your decision yet or still waiting?

thanks for the kind words, imanicollegehelp and rocknroll. I can’t help but think he/I made a big mistake picking an alternate campus. He has friends with similar stats accepted that only put UP, no alternate or UP, Summer. Kicking ourselves for that although let’s be honest, his stats aren’t up to par.

I told him many a time to stop playing XBox and study more. I told him that if he really wanted Penn State he should take the SATs again. He chose not to.

It stings. Although, tomorrow things will seem better.

Again, congrats to all who got in!

mattw123 - There are two 6-week summer sessions at University Park. 1st session students arrive 5/15 and 2nd session students arrive 6/26. 1st session classes start 5/16 and 2nd session classes start 6/29.
