I am currently studying for the SAT Literature test, and I just finished taking the Barrons diagnostic test. I know Barrons is notoriously hard, and people usually score lower on them so I was wondering how much higher your actual Literature test score was. Thank you!

I didn’t use barron’s but I used Princeton Review and Kaplan, and my scores were around 650 on them, with a slight upward trend as I did more. The actual test was a lot easier, so I scored a 780 on that.

I used Barrons for AP US History, and I never got a score above 600, even after 2 months of studying (my highest was 590, and my diagnostic was 570. So yeah). But I got a 750 on the actual test, so I felt like Barrons set me up for feeling like I was going to fail. I went in thinking that I was going to fail and I walked out thinking that I failed. I literally stared at my computer screen for 10 minutes after seeing my score. I just couldn’t believe it.
As a side note, I used Sparknotes as well, which is supposed to be easier, but my highest with that book was 610.

i used barrons for my sat chem test, and i consistently got low 700s (710-730) In the actual test, i got a 780. Barrons makes really hard tests in general, so your score on their tests are obviously going to be lower than your scores on a collegeboard test. That being said; you should still be careful about the tests and review every question carefully,

@rosebud30 thank you for your reply! That made me feel much better, and I will look into Sparknotes!

@yk3890 Thanks! I am definitely going to review the questions!

@cheese123211 would you recommend using PR?

PR and Kaplan are both relatively the same in terms of difficulty, but Kaplan gives 8 practice tests whereas PR only gives 4. So if you’re looking for the most bang for your buck, you should probably go for Kaplan.

I took the Literature test this June, and got a 770. I bought Kaplan, PR, and Barron’s, but only used Kaplan and PR after taking the diagnostic in the Barron’s book. I scored somewhere in the high 500s in Barron’s for my first diagnostic, high 600’s in Kaplan and low 700s in PR when I took each book’s diagnostic right when I started studying. I suggest Kaplan and the official CB book and if you can, PR as well. Just my 2 cents.
