How much more does rank mean than GPA?

Ok, so I have a 94.3 weighted avg. This means my gpa is 4.0 right?

The other thing is though, my class rank is 26/145... How bad is that?

Note that my gpa coming into my junior year was 92.9, so I increased by 1.4 points (quite a difference in my opinion) by the end of my junior year. That's obviously a good sign, right?

I know my questions are rather ambiguous, but I can't think of any way to make it less.

I want to apply to some really good schools, and I just want to know how much they emphasize rank more than gpa or vice-versa.

Thanks!

Since GPA varies so much from school to school, colleges use rank to determine your standing within your school, relative to the other students

Your class rank indicates you are well out of the top 10%, which is needed for consideration to top schools (where a majority of admits are vals and sals). With a rank of about 18%, your GPA will reflect that there is plenty of grade inflation, or just plenty of students ahead of you.

Your GPA will always be considered within the context of your school environment- that is why rank is more important than GPA. Really good schools are searching for the top performers in that school.

Also, colleges always use the unweighted GPA for their deliberations. (Weighted GPA is usually used just by your own school for ranking purposes.)

Well, I dropped from rank 35 to rank 26 by increasing 1.3pts (soph to jun, now a senior) in just one year. Would college know that? I mean, just knowing that, you can see how close everyone is lol.

And is it worth submitting college apps after getting my first qtr record, in case of increased gpa/class rank? Or should I just mail not wait and just mail my first quarter grades if anything?

It’s all about rank, not GPA.
