how can u sleep 8,9 hours in college? even in an average major, that's hard to believe. This is engineering. Either your school is too easy or ur a genius!

Studies show that - people who sleep 5,6 hours / day will live longer than those who sleep 8 hours / day. Of course those who sleep 5 hours and get sleepy while driving and die don't count.

And a MIT study shows that if one sleeps for 7 hours or more, they will be able to understand and think better during the day as opposed to one who sleeps less. So the expression "I'll sleep on it" is actually pretty true.

If you use your time well during the day and the weekends, you should be able to sleep 8-9 hours a day, regardless of your college or major. Problem arises when people don't make efficient use of their wake time and it turns into a horrific cycle.

I agree with jeffl, I would be able to sleep my ideal 8 hours/night, but I either procrastinated on some assignment, have a midterm to study for, or like last night, stay up til 4 playing 'guess that tune' with my floormates. It's usually not schoolwork that keeps me up late at night.

For those of you getting only 4-6 hours daily, I'll bet if your schedules we'd understand why you're only getting 4-6 hours of sleep. I get 7-9 hours depending on the day. Sometimes I squander that time and stay up for the hell of it. But I always get my work done first (most of the time anyway).

well i'm a grad student and i work, so 4-6 hours / day is mucho
When I was in high school studying for exams, I thought ur not supposed to sleep when u go to college :D unless it's summer

I average 6-8 on weekdays and 10 on weekends. Sometimes I'm busy with work and school, and other times I'm just goofing off. On the other hand, I go to a school ranked well below the norm here. shrugs

A note: many of the engineers that I know who get less than 8 hours of sleep do it because they stay up until 5 in the morning playing games, not because of homework.

Or they walk around the halls acting stupid..I wake up at 3 am to take a leak, and there are people walking around with a burger..? And then you hear everyone about how tired they are...

About 7/night during the week and 10 on the weekends. I could get more during the week if I didn't procrastinate so much.

And to whoever it was that expressed shock at engineers (or "any major") getting a solid amount of sleep each night, I truly don't believe that anyone with a normal workload (15-18 credits, say) at any school couldn't get all of his/her work done and still get 7+ hours of sleep nightly. If you are up all night finishing problem sets or projects you probably waited too long to get started on that stuff.

I usually get 6-8 hours of sleep per night during the week. Weekends its about 9-10 and sometimes even more. Maybe once a week I'll get 5 because of an 8 am lab the next day. No reason why you can't get at least 6-7 hours a night in engineering if you don't procrastinate or stay up all night playing video games (which is the majority of people I know who stay up all night)

i dont get any sleep. im constantly in a sleep debt, and i always end up skipping classes one way or another to get sleep. im sick in the head and im starting to live at night now. its gotten to the point where 3am is "early" for me. sometimes ill go to bed around 5am for no reason. im one of those guys who you will see walking the halls at 3am with a burger. at night is when i do work, and during the day is when i attend class groggily and sleep. my "day" starts after dinner. i am the biggest procrastinator. and its not like im alone either....
