How much time did you put into your CA essays?

I spent about an hour a day for 3 months on my RD essays (I had a surefire-rejection because of two lousy, recent semester). I got rejected at my dream schools despite my level best work, however, I do think the trek paid off in that I now think my diction and syntax is much improved.

The personal statement of your application is a chance to distinguish yourself from thousands of other applicants. With that in mind as I wrote mine, every paragraph, sentence and word was chosen very thoughtfully, and probably a little meticulously. So the entire writing and brainstorming process for that one essay took about five months for me.

I probably took the longest time on my personal statement, but it wasn’t too long, probably a few hours at the most. I really didn’t spend too much time on the essays, honestly. I could have definitely written better essays if I spent more time on it, but I was pretty confident with most of my essays anyway.

A few hours for the CA essay. Something came up last minute and I ended up having to apply a month or two early and write all my supplement essays in about half an hour each.

Sounds like it wouldn’t be true but my writing is best under pressure. So it worked out well.

Interesting thread… Helpful, too. I should probably get to work on my essays… Do you think an essay on how a Moby song (as well as a few books) had changed my outlook on life would be interesting, or is any kind of essay detailing how one’s outlook on life was changed by anything too cliche? God… This post is so awkward, ick, I hate passive voice!
