I finish the 20 minute sections with 6-7 minutes left and the 25 minute sections with 8-9 minutes left. I used to think I am really fast but after DataBox's figures, I guess I am just above average.

The thing with SAT math is that the concepts tested are so easy you get careless in some sections which is why after hitting 770 - 800 on all BB practice tests I got 690 in the Jan 09 SAT.

You've identified your own problems. Just take it slow. I guess you have 5-6 minutes left at the end of 20 minute sections. Instead leaving that time at the end, do the problems slow and check questions after you solve each not at the end. Seems to work for me.

spratleyj,
It is possible to make 3-4 mistakes when you know the answers and this prevents you from getting 760+ but 650 is like 10 errors or more..

I usually have about 8 minutes left when I finish a secton. Sometimes more (if no question strikes me as odd) but often less (there's always one section with one question that leaves me puzzled for a good couple minutes). I wouldn't recommend setting a specific amount of time to check over: do it right the first time around and recheck as a luxury because sometimes an answer will just hit you at the last minute. On the sat, I literally saw the answer to the last question in the last 10 seconds after staring at it for 5 minutes... 800 on both psat and sat so it does work! :)

I think my 650 was like 9 wrong.... Anyways, that's why it's such a big problem for me, I could have gotten at least 7 out of the 9 correct if I had just understood the question, or not have made a stupid mistake in the calculation.

Use the calculator more.If you have 74+21-35 just use the calculator.
If you have 4x7x8 ,use the calculator.
Use the calculator for 68-53 ,use it as much as possible
