Is ten minutes enough or will you need more time?

Jesus Christ, can you employ common sense?

Look at where the buildings are, both on campus map and google map. Figure out the distance. Figure out how fast you walk. Do some math.

It depends where the classes are...

Yeah, basically what everyone says. Obviously, if you have a class in the same building, it'll take you a few seconds to get there. If you need to go from Warren to Revelle...then you'll have some problems.

roflkeke: not true. ucsd is very hilly and if you have to walk uphill, it'll take more time. i.e. from warren to revelle, like jv said. as for distance, you can't just draw a direct line from the two places, you have to take into account not just the trails/roads, but also foot traffic (mostly library walk from 11a-2p)

professors are usually very very good about letting you out on time or 1-2 minutes before, so you will have no trouble getting to classes as long as you walk fast. for places like warren to revelle, you should think about investing in a bike or skateboard. or good running shoes and deodorant.

roflkeke you are simply rude.

Yes i can use common sense and figure out the distance between two buildings.

I ask this question because, when I choose classes on Aug. 20th some of the classes I am signing up for are hard to get into or I will have to be waitlisted. (i.e. MCWP) I try the class planner beta and so far most of the classes have 10 mins in between them.

cali: true, mcwp is very hard to get into first quarter (70% get in, compared to 100% of those who want to in other colleges). but here's a tip for you and everyone else planning to enroll in mcwp. last year, on the first day of enrollment, there were 4 seats per class (or some small number). but at 8am the next day, there were 8 seats per class and those who were waitlisted were still waitlisted and not automatically enrolled, strangely enough. the third day, it went up to 12. the fourth day, there were 15. i had the third day, got waitlisted since my time was late afternoon, but waited until the next day at 8am (because i had noticed this trend) and enrolled into mcwp the first quarter. i am not sure if they've fixed this or intended this or if they're doing it again this year, but if you don't get in, check again the next day (8am SHARP).

if you have the first day (as it seems), you will have no trouble getting into your classes unless you're taking non-freshmen classes. so don't worry too much. :)

If I am rude it is only because your question is idiotic.

Also you can just use campus map, to see the distance. It doesn't just do a straight line. For example: http://campusmap.michaelkelly.org/map.cgi?size=1&mpm=20&mode=js&from=York+Hall&from_selector=York+Hall&submit=Submit&to=Warren+Lecture+Hall&to_selector=Warren+Lecture+Hall

Also, UCSD's hills (I assume adjacent to Library Walk) are not going to slow you down to the point where you will miss class. Run if you have to.

I've walked from Warren to Revelle in less than ten minutes. It wasn't that hard.

Thanks ucsdhopeful, I also heard that from an orientation leader.

well im sorry that you thought my question was idiotic, I simply wanted to know from a current or former student if it was possible for example to walk/run from warren to revelle in ten minutes, especially for a new student.

roflkeke: please tell me how this is possible, as i did this for one quarter. i sat in the back of my class at WLH2005, left on time, speed walked to York2722 and barely made it on time. i also went the shortest way possible (the same highlighted on that map).

but perhaps you haven't had the experience of hundreds of students crowding up certain walkways that make it difficult to just run past them...? i'm sorry for sounding angry and bitter. i've had to leave early from my warren class too many times.

If you wait for crowds and people in front of you, of course you will end up being late. I never let anyone slow me down. If someone was in front of me and I had to go or be late, I tapped the person to let them know and got in front of them.

well same with me, but i go around.

fyi to everyone else: campus loop shuttles aren't worth the wait unless you're achingly tired or you broke your foot. you can walk faster, i guarantee it.

So it's bad to have a class end at 250 when another class after it starts at 3?

I made it a point not to have any classes 10 minutes apart first quarter, and I am glad I did that. It took me a few weeks to figure out the fastest way from one place to another, especially since a lot of the faster routes I found happened to go through the trees and some buildings, or finding a hidden staircase somewhere...

I see. How much time is okay for lunch? For example, One of my classes ends at 1250 and the other begins at 2. So it 1:10 hrs enough for me to walk to Marshall food court or price center?

I actually have no problem having classes right after each other. What I hate is having an hour between classes. This gap in only good if it's your lunchtime or breakfast. But if you don't eat than you will probably waste that hour doing nothing.

classes one after the other tend to guarantee that i show up to both of them. if there's an hour between, i'll take a nap and oversleep, or run errands and go overtime. or sit around bored. most people dont' study between classes

iran, there will be plenty of time for you to grab food. it's similar to your high school's cafeteria except you have more choices and it's open from 7:30a-(up to) 1am.

I dreaded having classes right after another... It always made me want to skip one so I wouldn't have to be in a lecture hall for so long...

So 1 hour is fine for food?

An hour is plenty.
