Standard tipping is 16%, which I do everytime because I feel it absurd to judge the server, as if my tip is going to change him for better or worse!

Actually I just divide the bill by 6 and round up, so my minimum tip is 16.6666% but is often 17 or 18%. I don't think 20% is standard fair at all; I have rarely heard anyone advocate this. It must be an upper class thing or something. Anyway, I don't believe in skimping the tip if the service was worse than expected. Many times the restaurant might be understaffed for the night, or there could be other problems. Should I dock the waiter's pay for this? I don't think so. Not to mention, is your pay docked significantly if you are a little slow getting this or that, or some coworker of yours (the cook) does a substandard job or takes too long? Pay the man for his godd.amn time, he's trying to make a wage like you are.

ok, maybe don't lower the tip just becuase of slowness, but when they are unnessecarily rude, get the order wrong and not care, and just don't try to give good service, I think it's fair to give a lower tip.

Yeah, I know, that is expensive but I have been there before and can appreciate it. And, if I come back, atleast I wont get my food spit in unlike these ba****** who are willing to go all the way down to a quarter!

20%. The only time I didn't tip was when the waitress dumped a tray full of ice water on me, and didn't apologize or anything. She didn't even go get towels or anything! I had to go find the manager, while dripping wet, and ask for towels. At least I got a free meal out of it.

10% or 5 bucks, whatever is less. Just Kidding. Usually just double the tax or give 20-25%. The tip should be more if the service is good, and less if the service is bad. Why would you tip the same for horrible service? TIPS is an acronym for To Insure Prompt Service.

slorg--what do you mean you don't tip?? the people who wait on you in restaurants depend on your tips to allow them to pay their bills and buy things they need. They don't get minimum wage...they get far below it.

Dude tips, he is just playing around. Also don't forget that if you tie up a table for a while (two hours+) you should tip more because you are costing that waitress turnover money of other people coming in.
