How much volunteer work should I do to get into UNC?

Hi all.

I plan to go to UNC at Chapel Hill and I need to know about solid vounteeer opportunities that are available. How much volunteer works should I do to get a decent shot at UNC?

I have 4.5 GPA and a rather low 154 PSAT, planning on taking the ACT.

Volunteer doesnt matter for UNC - just get ur ACT high (since if that PSAT translated over into a SAT or ACT equivilent u'd have 0 chance at UNC no matter what ur GPA or volunteering status is). Do a little bit but volunteering isnt important for a state school.

I would post this on the UNC thread to get better advice. UNC is a state school but by no means does that mean that they don't emphasize public service. Those accepted to UNC are well-rounded applicants who are passionate about something and involved in their schools. I would encourage you to attain community service hours by doing something you are passionate about instead of just trying to fill up your college application. You can find more useful info on the UNC thread about profiles of those accepted in the past. Best of luck. What year are you? I'm assuming sophomore or junior, right?

I am a junior and I have 1 year to go. Do I even have a shot at it?

I agree with cs08carolina. UNC actually does consider and look favorably on applicants who have done a lot of service and volunteer work. Also agree that you should find something that you care about, start now, and stick with it -- even through your college years. If you're great at a specific subject, for instance, tutor students who need help. Find something that interests you in your local area, and volunteer your services. It's great to do that, regardless. Good luck.

Thank you guys.

Umm.. if you're not really a volunteer-type person, don't just do it for college.. that's not the point..
