How much weight do the admissions offices put on grades from freshman year?

I'm just curious to hear about whether anyone got into an Ivie or a college of a similar stature while having sub-par freshman grades (In my case, I transitioned from a lax public school system into Phillips Exeter Academy, one of the leading secondary schools in the country.) I would really like to rebound from a poor start at my school. Thus, I was wondering whether anyone had past experience with this type of situation, and what transpired later on.

not a lot. unless you got straight F's...your fine. but u better get straight A's from soph to senior

I got something like 12 B's and 4 C's. disgusting

It really depends on the school. I know some schools, like Princeton (I think), don't take freshman grades into account at all. Others consider them equally as important as later grades. But still, it's always better to have an upward trend than a downward trend.
