How much weight is placed on the mid-term report for freshmen transfers?

Hey guys. I’m a current freshman at GW and am looking to transfer out to a better school(Brown is my top choice) for sophomore year. I had a 4.0 first semester, but am wondering how much weight is placed on the mid-term report? I’m going to have 1 B and 4 As, and am wondering If I’m in trouble from the B.

Given that your GPA is still in the ballpark of 3.8-3.9, it shouldn’t destroy you if you’re an otherwise competitive applicant. As long as you have a solid HS record, a B is pretty unlikely to be the deciding factor.

I’m a current sophomore, but I was wondering about this too. I have a strong GPA at a top LAC, but I’m really worried about the midterm report because I feel like it’s far too early in the semester to give an accurate assessment of my work. Most of classes have either given no graded assignments or only one, and if you ended up getting a B+ or something on that first assignment (which is totally normal for the first assignment no matter how smart and motivated you are) it’ll look like you aren’t doing well.

If I’d applied exactly a year ago as a freshman, 3/4 of my classes would have said I was running a B and the other class wouldn’t have been able to grade me on anything other than attendance. Yet I ended up with a 4.0 for the semester…goes to show how misleading these midterm reports can be.

I’m hoping as a sophomore that they’ll focus on my official transcript, but I have no idea about freshmen…

Bump. Still concerned about this.
