How much weight does a college put on the mid-term report? What if you are doing a bit poorly in your classes, and the mid-term report reflects that, but then come final grade time, it turns out that you have a 4.0?

Thats the situation I am in right now. My first semester I got a 4.0, but right now half way through my 2nd semester I have a few B's, only because we've had only a couple of quizzes and nothing else. I'm sure by the end of the semester it'll be an A, but I don't want college's thinking that my current mid-semester grades are representative of my final semester grades.

exact same situation here. 4.0 GPA first semester, now I have a heavier courseload, and have had only a few quizzes/hw grades which I haven't done too too well on. I'm trying to transfer up to an Ivy, and I don't want some midterm grades that don't reflect my true term grade potential to dampen my chances. Any one else have feedback on this?

My opinion is....

I am pretty sure that they put a lot of weight into the mid-semester grades because first of all, if they are not going to look or care much about it... they are not going to tell you to send it, second, they look at mid-semester grades to see if you are putting all your efforts just like the previous semester, third, if your mid-semester grade is worse than the other applicant who has the same previous semester grades but better mid-term grades, then there is a high chance that you are going to be either waitlisted or rejected. Colleges say that reviewing the application is holistic but the most important factor is the grades no matter how well you are with extracurriculars and everything else. I am sure they look at your numbers first when they receive your application and if they are not satisfied with them then you are already at a huge disadvantage because you did not make the cutoff.

I feel pretty similarly. I had a 3.94 last semester, but I'm mostly B+/A- in my classes now. One thing I'm definitely planning on doing is askign teachers to put something along the lines of "few assignments given/graded so far" in classes where I'm not getting an A/A-.

That's a good idea, I'll keep that in mind.
