Hi everyone,
I’m a junior in high school and final grades are going up. My school does unweighted grades and I currently have a 3.7 from freshmen and sophomore year. I’ve never gotten anything lower than a B before (3.0 or 83-87 at my school) but I might get a B- in AP Bio. I know this is really low and am worried about this grade’s impact on my admission chances next year. I’m applying to reach schools like UCLA and USC as I have really strong ECs and got a 35 on the ACT, despite my mediocre gpa. The rest of my grades are A’s and one A-, so my GPA will likely stay the same, at a 3.7 if I get a B-.
UC’s do not consider the +/- for grades so your B- is a B to the UC’s.
If you are interested in UCLA, you need to calculate your Capped weighted and Fully weighted UC GPA:

UC’s tend to be very GPA focused vs. USC which is more test focused so your excellent ACT score will help you for USC.
As you seem to be aware, both are Reach schools and there are far more qualified applicants than spots available, so all you can do is your best, writing some great essays and hope for the best.
Make sure you have some solid Match and Safety schools on your list and if you are accepted to your Reach schools then it is icing on the cake.
